In business for over 25 years, Conrad's Septic Services Ltd. is a family owned and operated business serving all Metro, Eastern Shore and Waverley & Fall River.

In rural areas where houses are spaced so far apart that a sewer system would be too expensive to install, people install their own, private sewage treatment plants. These are called septic tanks.  Conrad's Septic Services Ltd. is pleased to present the following information for your reference:

A septic tank is simply a big concrete or steel tank that is buried in the yard. Wastewater flows into the tank at one end and leaves the tank at the other. The tank looks something like this in cross-section:

A - Wastewater in
B - Scum layer
C - Water
D - Sludge layer
E - To drain field

The purpose of this tank is to fill up to design capacity (600, 800, 1000 gallons, etc.), settle out and retain the solids (sewage, grease, soaps, etc.) with a series of baffles and overflow the liquids into the leaching area.

The leaching area then absorbs this liquid waste and cleans it of harmful bacteria and remaining suspended solids.  By the time this water makes its way back to groundwater, it is hopefully clean and drinkable.

The reason why Conrad's Septic Services vacuum pumps your septic tanks is to remove the solid matter, check the tank's structural integrity and baffles, and make sure the liquid level is normal.
Remember, the more often a tank is pumped, the cleaner and clearer the liquid is going to the leaching area and the longer the septic system will last.

How Often Should A Septic System Be Pumped?
1 - 2 people in the house = every 3 years  /  3 - 5 people in the house = every 2 years  /  6+ people = every year

What Will Conrad's Septic Services Do For You?

  • Perform a pre-pump check for lint in the septic system - finding this can avoid future clogging
  • Thorough tank cleaning of all liquids and all solids.
  • Draw on 20 Years Tank Installation Experience
  • We'll look for items that will not break down in the system and we will also look for low bacterial activity indicating
    an over-use of chemicals.
  • We then pump the tank & look for water draining back from the drain field which can indicate a slow or failing drain field.

This is what a proper septic cleaning/inspection is, however not many contractors go into this detail, but we at
Conrad's Septic Services Ltd. do - We pride ourselves on delivering quality service and experienced workmanship.
